Trenton, NJ – February 18, 2015: The Mercer County Technical School District’s General Advisory Committee presented David Mensah of Ewing with the 2015 Career Success Award last week. Mensah is currently employed as a Registered Nurse Supervisor at Lawrenceville Nursing and Rehabilitation Services and Aspen Hills/Buttonwood Hospital in Pemberton. Mensah is a 2006 graduate of the Licensed Practical Nurse program (postsecondary) at Mercer County Technical School District’s Health Careers Center in Hamilton.
After arriving in the United States in 1999 as an illegal immigrant, David Mensah worked as a gas station attendant until he was inspired to do more. Mensah’s regular customer, who happened to be a doctor, told him that he didn’t belong at a gas station. Shortly thereafter, Mensah completed Certified Nursing Assistant training which allowed him to enter the healthcare field. Determined to stack his credentials, Mensah then enrolled at Mercer County Technical School District’s Health Careers Center in the Licensed Practical Nurse program.
“David did not miss one day of school during his entire program and always maintained above average grades. David has mentored students in a variety of healthcare occupations and throughout his community. David also established the Nursing Advocate award after his graduation, through his generous annual donation to MCTS – Health Careers Center, to be given to the LPN graduate with the highest clinical average,” says Lisa Nolan, Licensed Practical Nurse Instructor.
David went on to complete an Associate Degree in Nursing at Mercer County Community College in 2012. David is a member of the New Jersey State Nurses Association and the Mercer County Technical School District’s Health Careers Center LPN Advisory Committee.
