Course Descriptions: Fall Semester
Program
Objective
Designed to prepare students for positions with county, state and federal
correctional agencies, as well as probation and parole departments.
Graduates have also gone on to pursue careers in social welfare, criminology
and law. Students may continue in the degree program without loss of
credits. Courses include Criminal Justice System, Criminology, and Introduction
to Corrections.
Introduction to the Criminal Justice System CRJ 101
An overview of the system of criminal justice in the United States:
a survey of the agencies for the administration of justice and of the
relationship among them.

The Juvenile
Offender CRJ 212
An overview of the major issues in the field of juvenile justice. Causes
of delinquency and the development of modern treatment methods will
be examined. Emphasis is on the delinquent’s relationships with
family, school, peers, and the juvenile justice system.

Descriptions: Spring Semester
Introduction
to Corrections CRJ 103
A study of the relationship between the correction officer and prisoner
including the history of corrections, the rights of the confined, parole
and work release, and the philosophies of rehabilitation and punishment.

Criminology
SOC 205
An in-depth analysis and evaluation of criminal behavior. Street crime,
organized crime, and occupational crime will be discussed. The student
will learn to investigate, categorize, and describe the theories of
criminality and social control.
