Diesel Technology   

 

             

Diesel Technology is a entry level program in Medium and Heavy duty mechanics.  This course is set up to give a entry level technician a solid base knowledge in order to secure a competitive edge in the diesel repair industry.  Post Secondary programs are also available from several colleges throughout the country.

 

 

Year 1 Year 2
  • Basic hand tools used in Diesel Technology
  • Power tools
  • Basic electrical systems
  • Starting and charging system
  • Basic electronics
  • Air and hydraulic brake systems
  • Antilock brake systems
  • Clutches and transmissions
  • Engines and engine rebuilding

  • Tear down, inspect and reassemble a heavy truck engine and run successfully
  • Welding and oxy-acetylene cutting
  • Air conditioning
  • Steering and suspension
  • Preventative maintenance

Resources such as field trips, factory demos, guest speakers and Skills USA competition are used to enhance instruction.

Career Path     

There is a high demand for entry level technicians to fill the ranks, as seasoned technicians move to management and advanced opportunities. This demand for skilled technicians has never been greater, and will continue well into the next decade. 

Diesel Industry Common Requirement

  • Valid Drivers License
  • Eligibility to Acquire a Commercial Drivers license (through employer)
  • ASE Certifications are optional, but financially attractive

Salary Ranges                                         Most companies offer

Entry Level        8.50-12.50 p/hr               -Paid Sick and Personal Days

C Technician     11.50-17.00p/hr              -Paid Medical and Dental Benefits

B Technician     16.50-22.00p/hr              -Pension and 401k Available

A Technician     20.00-32.00p/hr+            -Paid Vacation up to 5 weeks

Mr. Patrick Schroeder, ASE Master Certified for Medium/Heavy Truck Repair, ASE Master Certified for Automotive Repair and ASE Certified Level 2 Electronics Diagnosis Specialist.  His expertise in repair and diagnosis enables his students to succeed.
